In Memorial

The “Brothers-in-arms” statue is a unique memorial to the 2,300 men of the fraternity, of Canada and the United States, who served in World War I, and especially for the 93 brothers who made the supreme sacrifice. The embodiment of the memorial is a statue in bronze representing two young officers, one an American and the other a Canadian, wounded and helping each other through the fire of battle. They symbolize brotherhood, service, leadership and sacrifice, and are intended for all time to remind the rising generations of Alpha Delta Phi of the great ideals of the Fraternity.

Montreal’s Fallen Brothers

The Montreal Chapter lost more Brothers in WWI and WWII than any other chapter. Memorial Hall is the main meeting room in the Chapter house and is dedicated to Brothers that fell during both World Wars.

These showcases, which include a picture of each fallen Brother, are mounted in Memorial Hall.

These plaques, which are mounted in the library, have the names and statistics of each fallen Brother.

For an account of the Montreal chapter’s activities during WWI, see Paul Phelps Hutchison’s (MEM ’16) “Five Strenuous Years: The McGill Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi during the Great War”. The author, himself a Lieutenant in the Royal Highlanders of Canada who was wounded three times, states in the preface his wish that future generations of Alpha Delts absorb the lessons of bravery, patriotism, and understanding of their predecessors.
